Celebrating Voices: Eighth National Convention of Self Advocates’ Forum India (SAFI)

The Eighth National Convention of the Self Advocates’ Forum India (SAFI) was successfully held on 19th and 20th July 2025 at Sneh Kunj Garden, Nagda (MP). In fact, this significant event brought together self-advocates., mentors, and organizations from across India to amplify the voices of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
About SAFI
The Self Advocates’ Forum India (SAFI), an association of persons with IDD, works tirelessly to promote self-advocacy and empower individuals to speak for themselves, make decisions, Moreover, it fosters leadership, inclusion, and equal opportunities.

Highlights from Day 1
Inaugural Session
Following this, the convention opened with dignitaries. lighting the ceremonial lamp, followed by warm welcomes from:
- Mr. Amit Patle, President, SAFI
- Dr. Pankaj Maru, President, PARIVAAR
- Dr. Maya Bohra, who delivered the keynote address
- Sh. S. Govindaraj, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Government of India
As a result, participants were inspired and energized for the two-day program.
General Assembly of SAFI
Self-advocates from various states presented activity and audit reports, followed by passionate expressions on the theme of the convention. Furthermore, the session included…
- Group discussions on rights under the RPD Act, 2016
- Topics like decision-making, political and financial participation
- The passing of the Nagda Declaration of Self Determination
Interactive Sessions and Group Activities
Afterwards, participants engaged in small-group activities…
- Life skills: yoga, drumming, emotion expression
- Legal capacity, inclusive education, privacy, and self-protection
- Group presentations and chart preparation for the next day
The day concluded with a vibrant Cultural Evening and Dinner.
