About the Role

Express Employment Professionals is hiring on behalf of a local retail and pawn operation for a highly skilled Bench Jeweler & Jewelry Appraiser. You’ll blend craftsmanship with customer care—evaluating pieces, performing precision repairs, and guiding clients through buying, selling, trading, and maintaining their jewelry in alignment with company, industry, and regulatory standards.

A Day in the Life

You start by preparing your bench and test equipment. The morning might bring a client requesting a ring resize and polish, followed by an appraisal for a collateral loan. Midday, you authenticate metals and gemstones with professional tools, then craft accurate valuations for purchases, trades, and loans using company guidelines. In the afternoon, you refine displays for maximum impact, document a special order, and finish a clasp replacement and stone setting—ensuring each piece meets exacting craftsmanship standards. Throughout, you build relationships, educate customers on care and value, and keep the sales floor and repair area secure and organized.

Core Accountabilities

• Customer Service & Sales: Welcome customers, identify needs, recommend products/services, and educate on jewelry care and long-term value to encourage repeat business and referrals.
• Evaluation & Purchasing: Examine and appraise jewelry to confirm authenticity, quality, and market value; test gemstones and precious metals using professional instruments; deliver precise pricing for loans, buys, and trades per company policy.
• Repair & Maintenance: Execute professional repair work—ring sizing, chain mending, stone setting, clasp replacement, finishing/polishing—and maintain thorough records for repairs, special orders, and custom projects. Uphold top-tier workmanship.
• Inventory & Merchandising: Price, tag, and merchandise items to maximize appeal; monitor and replenish stock; ensure secure handling and storage of high-value items; maintain a tidy, secure sales and bench area.
• Compliance & Security: Follow all industry regulations, company procedures, documentation standards, and safety protocols for every transaction.

What You Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education in gemology, jewelry repair, or metalsmithing preferred.
• Previous hands-on experience in jewelry sales, repair, or appraisal is required.
• Deep knowledge of gemstones, precious metals, and jewelry construction, plus proficiency with professional repair tools and techniques.
• Strong communication and sales abilities; precise appraisal and pricing skills for retail and pawn environments.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational discipline; comfortable thriving in a fast-paced retail/pawn setting.

Physical Demands

• Able to sit or stand for extended periods to perform precision work.
• Excellent manual dexterity and hand–eye coordination.
• Lift up to 20 lbs.

Work Environment

• Retail/pawn shop setting with variable lighting and noise levels.
• Evening and weekend availability may be required.
