Regional Business Developer – Technical Sales Engineer

The Company
The Schunk Group is a privately-held worldwide company headquartered in Germany with 1.5+ billion in sales, 10,000 employees, with operations in 26 different countries. Schunk has subsidiaries in the USA representing both divisions (Materials and Machinery & Equipment) such as Schunk Carbon Technology, Weiss Technology, Xycarb, and Optotech. Schunk Carbon Technology is located in Menomonee Falls, WI and will be the designated employer for this position. With annual sales of $50M+ and 100 employees, Schunk Carbon Technology hosts several carbon-based business units including Transportation, Energy, White Goods, Heat Treat and Mechanical Carbon. 

The Opportunity
Currently, Schunk is the European market leader in the mechanical carbon space. While we have a solid foothold in the U.S. we desire to continue to aggressively grow the Mechanical Carbon business. Accordingly, Schunk has created a new position for a motivated and energetic Regional Business Development Technical Sales Engineer with a deep and practiced understanding of industrial sales development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or associate degree in mechanical engineering or materials science preferred
  • 5+ years of work experience in the Pump & Compressor industry or similar industry
  • Proven success with new account generation
  • Experience in a technical, consultative sales approach
  • Comfortable penetrating, prospecting and initiating product testing and the validation process
  • Aerospace industry experience a plus
  • Familiar with carbon material (carbon seals / bearings preferred)
  • Self-starter who can work independently and remotely
  • Professional-strength communication skills
  • CRM experience highly desirable
  • Ability to speak German and/or Spanish is preferred but not required
  • Ideal residence in the Texas Area but home office can be anywhere, proximate to a major airport
  • US Citizen with US Passport required
  • Must be able to travel by car including rental vehicles and travel by air

Essential Job Functions (Job-Specific Knowledge/Skills)

  • Develop new business (90%) primarily in the U.S. with approximately 10% account maintenance
  • Locate and establish relationships with customer’s decision-making personnel and other points of contact
  • Comfortable developing relationships with Engineering, Sr. Level Technical, Procurement and Management
  • Overnight travel of approximately 60% including some foreign travel
  • Focus on the southern part of the US but prospects may be in others areas of the U.S.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Germany and Mexico (sales and engineering)
  • Actively pursue and manage the product validation process at customers locations
  • Assure proposals are complete, accurate and timely
  • Consistent and organized follow-up calls on prospects and leads
