A Long-Term Preschool Substitute Teacher is responsible for creating and maintaining a nurturing, safe, and engaging learning environment for children ages 3–5 during an extended absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role goes beyond daily substitution by ensuring continuity of instruction, supporting developmental goals, maintaining classroom routines, communicating with families and staff, and contributing to the overall classroom environment in alignment with school policies and curriculum objectives.
Implement and adapt lesson plans in alignment with early childhood curriculum standards and developmental goals.
Plan and lead age-appropriate, play-based learning activities in early literacy, numeracy, fine/gross motor skills, and social-emotional development.
Maintain consistency in classroom routines, expectations, and behavior management strategies to provide a stable learning environment.
Foster creativity, curiosity, and social interaction through storytelling, singing, hands-on projects, and guided play.
Assess and monitor children’s progress, and provide feedback to program supervisors or lead staff as appropriate.
Collaborate with assistant teachers, support staff, and administration to ensure continuity of care and instruction.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding classroom activities, child development updates, and any concerns.
Use positive guidance strategies and developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques.
Support classroom transitions, meal/snack times, and other daily routines in a consistent and nurturing manner.
Provide emotional support and individualized attention to children as needed.
