32- Hour a Week Position with Full Time Benefits– Community Ombudsman
Qualifications: The Community Ombudsman must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and have experience in advocacy, aging, social services, health care or related fields. The Community Ombudsman will investigate and resolve complaints involving residents of licensed long-term care facilities; participate in advocacy activities on behalf of residents; inform residents of their rights, provide information and education to residents, long-term care staff, and the community; network with other organizations and agencies regarding residents; rights, and complete all case notes in a timely manner in an electronic state operated documentation system. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and possess excellent word composition skills. Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, proof of current automobile insurance, the ability to conduct visits in long-term care facilities, and be able to lift 25 pounds.
The Community Ombudsman must be able to travel throughout the service area – Crawford, Edwards, Hamilton, Jasper, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash, Wayne, and White Counties.
This is a full-time position – 32 hours per week. The Community Ombudsman must complete 36 hours of Initial Certification Training through the Illinois Department on Aging and 40 hours of Domestic Violence Training. Employment is contingent on successful background checks through the Illinois State Police and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). The Community Ombudsman must be a self-starter and comfortable providing outreach and marketing.
Benefits: SWAN has 9 paid holidays, paid leave hours after 90 days of employment, 2 weeks of vacation after 1 year of employment, and sick time accrual. SWAN offers employer paid health and dental insurance and the opportunity for a retirement plan. In addition, employees of SWAN may make payroll deductions for vision insurance, and other insurances such as life and short-term disability during open enrollment periods. The pay range is $18-$20 per hour depending on education and experience. The Community Ombudsman is reimbursed monthly for mileage incurred on-the-job at the current IRS rate.
