Campus Facilities Trades Technician

Express Employment Professionals is hiring a full-time, evaluation-to-hire Facilities Trades Technician to support a school campus in San Juan Capistrano. This second-shift role pays $20–$23 per hour DOE and comes with a stellar benefits package, perks, and incentives.

A day in the life

Your shift begins at 3:00 pm. You review work orders, scan blueprints, and map out your plan. One hour you are measuring, cutting, and shaping wood and drywall; the next you are fabricating solid-surface countertops or patching stucco. A call comes in to adjust a door closer and repair hardware on a gate. Later, you jump on a scissor lift to touch up exterior paint and then patch a section of single-ply roofing. Throughout the evening, you collaborate with maintenance, grounds, and custodial teammates to tackle facility requests and custodial cleaning needs as they arise. You finish strong by delivering and installing office furniture for a classroom refresh.

What you will handle

• Minor plumbing, electrical, and HVAC tasks
• Measuring, cutting, and shaping wood, drywall, and related materials
• Fabricating, installing, and repairing solid-surface materials (countertops, partitions, wall surfaces)
• Cutting, patching, and repairing concrete flatwork and stucco
• Reading blueprints, drawings, and verbal instructions to plan and layout work
• Altering, repairing, and constructing walls, partitions, counters, doors, window frames, podiums, cabinets, and shelves
• Routine maintenance and minor repairs to doors and door hardware, fences, and gate controls
• Drywall patching and repair; repairing doors, cabinets, latches, shelves, and wall units
• Patching and repairing single-ply, built-up, and clay tile roofing systems
• Interior and exterior painting
• Building cabinets, shelves, wall units, TV backboards, consoles, work benches, and frames
• Delivering, installing, and making minor repairs to school and office furniture
• Operating scissor lifts and boom lifts safely
• Collaborating with maintenance, grounds, and custodial teams to complete repairs and facility requests

Schedule

Second shift: Monday–Friday, 3:00 pm–11:30 pm, with the ability to work occasional weekends.

Qualifications

• Valid Class C California driver’s license (required)
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent, plus any combination equal to one year of journey-level experience (preferred)
• Experience reading sketches, plans, and blueprints (preferred)
• Semi-skilled in one or more trades: finish carpentry, electrical, plumbing, glazing, cabinetmaking, tile setting, HVAC (preferred)
• Comfortable working at heights on ladders, scaffolds, and lifts (preferred)
• Able to lift up to 100 lbs with assistance (preferred)
